Nautilus Environmental, part of the Montrose Environmental Group, is currently seeking a full-time Project Manager to join our San Diego team of aquatic toxicologists. Nautilus is a consulting laboratory focused on the analysis, integration, interpretation, validation, and application of high quality toxicity data. Project Managers (PM) in the aquatic toxicology lab operate as the interface between the laboratory personnel and customers, and are responsible for building strong client relationships. They make sure that we are providing customers with the appropriate level of service and ensure the customer knows what to expect from the laboratory.  They provide toxicity expertise, including review and understanding of client permits and other regulatory documents.  


Salary range: $45,000 - $75,000 annual depending on experience.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Obtain a clear understanding from the clients as to the project schedule and requirements and set up projects
  • Transmit project schedules, technical and turn-around requirements accurately to the analytical groups, and obtain their commitment to meet the requirements
  • Work with operations to ensure adequate capacity to meet incoming projects
  • Technical resource and trainer for the laboratory
  • Proactively communicate to clients any scheduling conflicts, analytical problems, or questions that could impact either the quality or TAT of results
  • Inform Operations & QA of impacts to either quality or TAT
  • Assist clients with data interpretation & questions
  • Review project’s requirements (NPDES permits, SAP, QAPP, EDD, reporting format, regulatory limits, etc.) and ensure that results meet project’s requirements
  • Manage contracts, purchase orders, task orders
  • Adhere to company policies regarding data and client ethics
  • Assist Sales with leads, simple quote generation and client’s follow up calls
  • Works with QA and operations to identify and resolve protocol deviations
  • Ensure that reports and other project deliverables are complete, accurate, and comprehensible
  • Schedule sample kit orders as needed
  • Generate sales from existing client base
  • Provide information to management on potential client sales opportunities
  • Provide information to management on competitors (ie: pricing, client perspective)
  • Provide information to management on client business (ie: are they downsizing, changes in the business or personnel, awarded new work)





  • A PM must understand the regulatory and market forces that cause customers to request analytical work. 
  • They will be able to interface with customers, sales, the Senior Management team, and lab staff. 
  • BS/BA in Biology or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 year in environmental or related customer service experience.
  • Prefer minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience.
  • A Project Manager will have technical knowledge of a wide swath of bioassays offered by the laboratory.
  • Complete documentation and attention to detail are very important characteristics of a PM
  • Excellent communication and personal skills
