Responsibilities

ES Engineering Services, a subsidiary of Montrose Environmental Group, is seeking a Plant Operator to join their team located in Avalon, CA.  ES is part of a larger firm, Montrose Environmental Group, which is a high-growth environmental services company offering Air Quality, Environmental Laboratory, Regulatory Compliance and Engineering services to a diverse range of clients in industry and government.

 

The Plant Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of plant equipment in connection with the continuous operation of the facility. Responsibilities will include performing routine maintenance, upgrading and improving equipment around the facility, maintaining facility records and other miscellaneous tasks at the site. The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating independently in a remote location and a demanding environment, while working collaboratively with the team on site.  There will be rotating shifts, and some weekend work may be required in the event of an emergency at the plant.

 

The Plant Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining and troubleshooting the facility and its processes.

  • Reads gauges, meters, charts, and graphs and records data in appropriate logs and spreadsheets
  • Operate a centrifuge for solids removal, DAFs and other wastewater treatment equipment machinery, and facilities by using manual, electronic, and computer control systems to regulate and control plant processes
  • Collects wastewater samples for process control analyses and for permit compliance analyses
  • Performs assigned laboratory analyses and reports results of testing and immediately alerts appropriate personnel of any non-compliance or out of range parameters
  • Following prescribed instructions, determines amounts needed and sets feed rates for process chemicals in the wastewater treatment plant
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment as scheduled
  • Maintains a variety of operating logs, records, and reports that require a working knowledge of common PC programs. Updates spreadsheets and interprets data and results of laboratory analyses
  • Assists in the development of standard operating procedures
  • Trains new staff members as assigned
  • Maintains facilities, buildings, and grounds in a clean and orderly manner
  • Practice safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities (i.e. self-starter, self-motivated)
  • English language competency
  • Wastewater License Grade 2 or higher
  • Must be able to commute and/or relocate to Avalon

 

Preferred Skills

  • College level course work or trade school training in mechanical repair, wastewater treatment technology, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of wastewater treatment experience preferred
