    We are looking to hire a Staff Scientist who will be based out of our Irvine, CA and Long Beach, CA offices.

     

    The Staff Scientist is responsible for conducting environmental site reviews, preparing draft reports, and sampling at various locations and for operating and minor maintenance on collection systems in accordance with our Policies and Procedures and Standard Industry Practice.  This individual will also be responsible for conducting environmental reviews of properties and preparing draft reports for review (Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments – ESAs), collecting field data, preparing invoicing documents, etc. in addition to the responsibilities outlined below.

     

    Position Responsibilities:

     

    • Calibrate and operate field monitoring equipment (PID/FID, pH, GEM, EC, DO, turbidity, water level sounder, etc.). Carefully document monitoring and testing results on field forms.
    • Collect vapor, water and soil samples using a variety of sampling methods.
    • Complete Chain-of-Custody forms and label samples, strictly follow regulatory handling and preservation protocols for various sample media and deliver samples to an environmental laboratory.
    • Prepare field daily reports and data sheets.
    • Enter monitoring data from the field inspection forms into electronic spreadsheets in Word and/or Excel format
    • Be responsive and keep Project Managers informed of site conditions and activities.
    • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical system issues or failures.  Get quotes from vendors for parts and repairs. Help put together proposals for repairs.
    • Assist in renewal proposal for large projects: data entry, cost/budget analysis, edit/proofreading.
    • Receive monitoring data and information from technicians and prepare reports including basic calculations, summaries and recommendations for repairs.
    • Practice safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.
    • Participate in continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors in Environmental Studies or related
    • 3+ years environmental related experience including sampling & monitoring experience
    • Ability to use monitoring equipment
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
    • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
    • Solid organization and time/project management skills
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills
    • Able to work independently manage multiple responsibilities (i.e. self-starter, self-motivated)
    • English language competency
    • Ability/willingness to travel (up to 20%?) 

    Preferred Skills

    • Complete and maintain HAZWOPER certification with the 40 hour HAZWOPR environmental health and safety class, and annual 8-hour refresher classes.
    • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
